Prerequisites. There are
no prerequisites for this course, but a familiarity with computers is
necessary. Knowledge of the programming language C, and of the operating
system Linux are added bonuses, but not essential. If you do not feel
confident about these topics,
please see
the
instructor.
Withdrawals. The last day
to drop with a 'W' is March 16th. Students who are failing may be asked
to withdraw.
Academic and non-academic misconduct. Cheating
in any form will not be tolerated. You are encouraged to discuss assignments
with your fellow students, but copying
or stealing of work, or getting help from anyone who is not in the
class will be treated harshly. Depending on the nature of the behavior,
you may be failed in the course, and your conduct reported to the university's
committee on student behavior, which can result in expulsion from the
university. Non-academic misconduct, such as interfering with fellow students,
intimidation, sexism or racism will also be viewed very poorly and will
result in sanctions against you.
Graded work. All assignments and exams will be graded according
to the standard scale: 90+ is an A, 80-89 is a B, 70-79 is a C, 60-69
is a D and below 60 is an F. There may be some adjustment, at the instructor's
discretion, of these for individual assignments or exams.
Make-up work and exams. Missed deadlines withtout prior arrangment with
the instructor will result in a reduced grade. In exceptional circumstances
students may be allowed to make up missed assignments, at the instructor's
discretion.
Extra credit. There will be no
extra credit work in this class.
Students with Disabilities. If
you have or believe you have a disability and would benefit from any accommodations,
you may wish to self-identify
by contacting the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) Office
located at Garcia Annex (phone: 646-6840). If you have already registered,
please make sure that your instructor receives a copy of the accommodation
memorandum from SSD within the first two weeks of classes. It is your
responsibility to inform either your instructor or SSD representative
in a timely manner if services/accommodations provided are not meeting
your needs.
