CS 480 M01 Fall 2022 - Homework Assignment #1

Assignment:

1. Lab 1 / Linux Installation - 35 pts

   Follow carefully the instructions as described at

   https://www.cs.nmsu.edu/~istrnad/cs480/lecture_notes/lab1.shtml

   and in your report describe in detail what you did.

   Make sure that your computer is installed, running and configured exactly as described in the lab assignment. Pay attention to the details and make sure that everything is installed exactly as asked in the lab assignment:

   • Snapshots created
   • BIOS / Firmware - password & booting order, ...
   • Network configuration - IP address, netmask, hostname, ...
     
   • Disk partitioning must be done exactly as outlined in the lab assignment
   • sshd must be enabled and running, port open on firewall
     
   • Submitted user names / passwords must work
   • System Role is Server / Text Mode ( no X11 nor Window manager )
     
   • /etc/hosts modified correctly
     
   • ...
2. 10 pts - Submit report as a PDF document. The report has to describe the installation process in detail : include and explain all choices you made, difficulties you encountered, and how did you deal with them.
3. 5 pts - Estimate how much time did you spend on this assignment. Describe what was hard, easy, interesting, boring or confusing.

Submission requirements:

Although our syllabus asks for two files to be submitted with every assignment this assignment #1 is an exception. Only the PDF report is to be submitted with this assignment. Remember to name the PDF file correctly but there is no need to submit the tar.bz2 file.

If you want to correct or add something to already submitted assignment than you need to do so before the deadline and resubmit the whole report again.

Please remember that late submissions are penalized 20% per day and NO submissions that are late 3 or more days will be accepted. You can be late at most 2 days to receive any points.
