The Altaira project was very fortunate in having an exceptionally capable team of students, with an unusual group synergy, implementing it. The major contributors included Kit Crumpton, Tim James (Ms. Crumpton and Mr. James are responsible for the simulation environment), Karen Payne (Ms. Payne is primarily responsible for the execution engine), and Heather Pfeiffer (responsible for the rule and state editors). A large part of the overal structure of the program is due to Ms. Pfeiffer's contribution. In a period of approximately nine months, these students implemented over 26,000 lines of C++ and UIL code, and two thousand lines of HTML.

Hardware support has been provided by the National Science Foundation through grant NSF CISE-IRI-9616242. Travel support to VL'97 was provided by the aforementioned grant, by the NMSU College of Arts and Sciences, and by Burlington Resources.
