APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the November 18, 2002, meeting were approved.

OLD BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Stats: Compared to previous hear through January, the number of patient visits decreased by 4.2%, prescriptions decreased by 14.85%, Lab decreased by 4.68%; Xray increased by 0.87%; Nurse visits decreased by 9.3%; Physician On Call decreased by 14.9%; and, Saturday clinic decreased by 10.17%. The lower number of students enrolled in the endorsed insurance plan and the fact that there were very few flu cases, has caused the decreases.

2. Insurance Update:

  1. It had been proposed to eliminate the endorsement of one plan by the SHC. However, it has been decided to stay with an endorsed plan for the students. Enrollment through the university will be limited to only students. Spouses and dependents will have to be enrolled directly through the insurance company. There will also be a strict deadline instituted which will be the last day to enroll for classes.

  2. The student account billing will still be in place regardless of insurance company being used, but only a student’s premium and charges may be charged to the student account.

  3. Insurance plan renewal will come up in April 2003. SHAC members will be notified when we are scheduled to review this.

3. Health Education Report: Karin Diener reported that there are talks scheduled on STDs and Contraceptives for March and April. On 2/27/03, at Corbett Center, there was screening for and information regarding eating disorders and nutrition. Alcohol screening day is 4/10/03. There will be on-line screening available and it will be held at Corbett Center in conjunction with the CHOICES program.

Daniel Balizan, Michael O’Larey, and Melanie Martin took several surveys to distribute for the SHC.

5. Service Expansion - After Hours Pharmacy: The “after hours” pharmacy has been opened for Saturday clinic. I has basics such as antibiotics , tetanus shots, cold remedies, and morning after treatment.

6. Other:

  1. Laboratory Services: The SHC is checking into the possibility of contracting with Blue Cross Blue Shield for Lab and X-ray services, so patients with that coverage may utilize our lab services

  2. The ASNMSU presidential election will begin 4/10 and be done by 4/16. The switch will take place midnight 4/24. Lori McKee asked Daniel Balizan to invite the new President or Vice President to the next SHAC meeting.
