Old Business: Lori McKee reports on the accreditation. We have successful accreditation for a maximum of three years. Sections of accreditation that were assessed are detailed below.

Lori McKee reports:

Rights of Patients: were positive statements. Comments are reviewed and responded to. Suggested to consider developing a governing body committee for day-to-day operations. Proposed for fall to include nursing supervisor, Lori, and the chair.

Administration: Administrator is positive and system is well organized.

Quality of Care: Affluent Spanish speaking providers are a positive.

Quality Improvement: Suggestion to benchmarking and cooperating with other universities. Dr. Flores will go to QI training within the next year.

Clinical Records: Records are kept well and accurate. Comments made on reviewing reports from on-campus physician referral to the Student Health Center. Suggests decreasing the frequency of measuring height and weight during triage. Reasoning to measure frequently is because some providers track to determine obesity. Students do have the choice to participate in the measurements.

Professional Development: Suggestion to recognize nurses who are certified before certification is no longer available. Facility is clean, well maintained, and the appropriate amount of emergency equipment is available. Informed consents are signed appropriately.

Immediate Care: System works well and staff is professional. Consider mentioning to students / clients that not all needs have to be met at the SHC, even though we do have competitive prices on services. Lab services are “highly complex” by LEA standards.

Diagnostic Imaging: X-Ray services may be available in summer. Contract with another agency to increase the number seen in the summer season.

Occupational Health: Suggestion to strengthen functioning between the employees and the institution (SHC).

Health Education and Wellness: K. Sanchez is energetic and well organized. More staff is needed to complete health education activities. Consider rethinking the program by comparison to other university programs. Suggests a full time Health Educator.

Other Campus Initiatives: Working with John Irvine from Counseling Center. The Sexual Assault Coordinator position was funded via grant for up to 400,000. Will begin with education for fall season.

Health Education Report: STD and contraceptive presentations are occurring regularly. An upcoming presentation on nutrition is planned for CAMP. Eating disorder presentation took place in March. F.R.E.E. has invited us to a women’s health presentation. Karin will present on contraceptive and women’s health. Spring Break activity was successful with donation of apx. 200 safety kits to students. The SHC and Human Nutrition and Food Science Association will be sponsoring a free health screening for students and staff on April 14th in the Activity Center. Pfizer Pharmaceuticals will provide strips for cholesterol and glucose testing.

Next Meeting: We will assume SHAC meetings in the fall of 2004. Thanks for participating.
