This midterm exam involves theoretical and practical exercises and also some combined exercises that have both a theoretical part to be explained in this quiz and a practical part to be implemented on your CS480 virtual system running Linux OpenSuse 15.4.
The practical exercises are to be implemented on a new virtual machine that is ready for you at csvm3.cs.nmsu.edu. The name of your new virtual machine is yourCSusername_midterm480fa22 (as you will see it in VMware once you connect to csvm3 - in the instructor's case the name would be istrnad_midterm480fa22). The VM's firmware does not have passwords set and the linux root's password is the same as is the root's password on your regular cs480 virtual host. Hostname of your new VM host as known to csvm3 is yournamemid and you can ssh into it from csvm3 similar to
csvm3_prompt% ssh root@johnmid
Before starting the midterm quiz (which has 80 minutes time limit) it may be good idea to check first that everything works for you: login into your virtual host - both through your local vmware and also through ssh to csvm3 and then ssh into your VM.
!! For each practical exercise make sure to first implement the tasks on your virtual machine. After that describe the process here in this quiz: list all the steps made, files modified, changes done, and commands used (copy and paste may often work the best - note that almost all practical exercises can be done through ssh session from which is the copying and pasting quite easy. Only the last exercise may need to be done through a VMware console) !!
Please note, that
A quick overview of the questions is included on the actual canvas quiz (and will be also shown here once the exam starts)
