What Is It All About?
You know, I really love this website. Ever since I started it back in
late 1998 (or so), I have put a lot of effort into it. Mostly, it seems
to be done during times that I have nothing else to do - like summers.
Alas, those days are gone. Now I have to do this when I get sick of real
work.
Really, this website is all about me. You can see what I think is cool,
what I think is funny, what I've been working on, all of it. Thus the
name. I hope that it has been valuable to people in some way. At the
time of this writing I've had close to 2000 visits to the main page so at
least I know people keep coming to it.
Anyway, here are some things that I think are memorable from the
time spent on the website:
- (1998) The website really started because I had a page to put up from
the first summer I spent working at Sandia National Labs. Those relics
are still around to bring you joy (and crash your browser). I'd like to
think I've advanced since then...
- (1998-2002) The Hosted Sites on the website are, in my opinion, easily
the coolest thing there. North Korea Day, EIF, Not In Mexico, how can you
beat these things?
- (1999) The Coming Soon section has amused me to no end. It is filled
with links to pages that already exist, promises about pages that will
probably never exist, and a small amount of real content about what the
future holds for Damon's World. I love it.
- (2000) I made the Cool-o-Meter quiz as a way to make myself laugh. It
has been successful (though not updated) ever since. Sadly, I have yet to
get someone to score less than 0 on it.
- (2000) I suppose this wouldn't be complete without mention of my
undergraduate thesis. I won't go on about it since the whole tale is
available, but that was a worthy endeavor.
- (2001-2002) The part of my website that failed the most miserably was
the News and Updates section. Nobody ever went there. I should follow
Laura's lead and put some kind of updates thing on the front page so that
it is easily accessible. It's just that it's too much work...
- (2001-2002) When my Tick Quotes page hit #1 on Google's
search results for tick quotes that was awesome.
- (2002) One funny thing about the site is that I put up the Not In
Mexico page after I finished doing the show (maybe forever).
- (2002-????) Putting up the Europe 2002 page took FOREVER. In fact, at
this point, 4 months after the trip, I am still less than half done with
it. Hopefully I can get around to finishing before I really forget
everything that happened.
Well, that's all I have to say today. I hope you enjoy the site.
