Undergraduate Advising

Who is my CS Advisor?

Dr. Steiner will email all students the name and contact information of their advisor every semester. In general, we assign freshmen students to Dr. Steiner, and assign sophomore, junior, and senior students to other faculty members in the department.

You may contact your advisor any time during the semester to ask for help and advice, but please note that the designated Advising Period is typically April 7–30 for Fall Registration and November 1–30 (excluding Thanksgiving break) for Spring Registration.

Your advisor will be available to meet during this period and will make every effort to meet students before their registration appointment time. Your advisor will contact you with available meeting times before registration opens.

When can I register for my classes?

Crimson Scholars (Seniors and Juniors): November 7, 2013
Crimson Scholars (Sophomores and Freshmen): November 8, 2013

Seniors (> 93 credits): November 11, 2013
Juniors (62–93 credits): November 12, 2013
Sophomores (28–61 credits): November 13, 2013
Freshmen (0–27 credits): November 14, 2013

For more information, please see the official registration schedule here: http://registration.nmsu.edu/

What is an Advising Hold?

An advising hold is placed on every CS major each semester. This hold will prevent you from registering for all courses (not just CS courses) until you meet with your advisor. If you are a double major, you will need to meet with both your advisors to remove this hold.
