The Computer Operations Group (COG) operates the department’s computing facilities. Two full time employees and several students comprise the group. A large body of software is installed and maintained by this group, and direct support is provided for research projects through identification, acquisition, installation and consulting for a wide variety of software and hardware products. The COG is responsible for the Unix system administration of approximately thousand under-graduate, graduate and faculty users. Account creation, monitoring and deletion are ongoing activities.
The COG home page is located at https://intranet.cs.nmsu.edu. This server is intended for the private use of the department and is accessible only by login and password. This site contains information about the hardware, software, policies and procedures related to the operation of the hosts in the domain.
System problems can be reported to COG through the on-line reporting system called Bugzilla. Bugzilla allows you to submit trouble reports and recieve notification as progress is made towards solving a problems. Bugzilla is located at https://intranet.cs.nmsu.edu/bugzilla.

Getting Acquainted with the System
Check the COG Hardware Information page for the most up-to-date information regarding the computer systems in use. You should browse through the documentation available through the COG Software Information page (for local documentation).
If you have a problem that isn’t addressed in the on-line manual pages, you should try one of the proctors in the undergraduate lab (SH 118). If they can’t help, or you wish to report a software/hardware problem, you should then send a workorder via Bugzilla, as mentioned above. COG receives workorders submitted through Bugzilla immediately, and deal with workorders as quickly as we can. If for some reason you can’t use Bugzilla, send e-mail to email@example.com.
From past experience, we know that the answers to most user problems are contained in the documentation mentioned above. We strongly recommend that new users read the lab manual, visit the intranet web site, as that will speed up the rate with which you use the system efficiently. Also, please be aware that knocking on our door will NOT expedite the resolution of your problem; use the workorder system and your problem will receive prompt attention.
