It's less the antenna and more the output power. I haven't figured out how but the AWUS036NHR can put out 2W—other adaptors, 0.5W tops 26 Feb 2012 at 6:04

Spaceport America nestled within the Jornada del Muerto in the eastern part of Sierra County, New Mexico.

The photo is not actually from space (i.e. satellite photo); it's an aerial photograph taken from the USDA's NAIP 2011 release.
