Final Exam Topics
In a perfect world, there would be one question on each of the
following ten topics. In the interest of reasonable length, the exam
will only have around five or six questions, which may include
combinations of these topics. If there is any topic bias in the exam,
it will be toward answer questions from the second half of the
semester
- Single-Processor Topics
- File Systems (Ext2FS, Ext2FS, ReiserFS)
- Schedulers (Two-Level, Multimedia, Cello)
- Virtual Memory (Mach, IPT, Page Coloring)
- Multi-Processor Topics
- Interprocess Communication (Sockets, RPC, CORBA, DCOM)
- Distributed OSes (Amoeba, Exokernel, Mosix)
- Distributed File Systems (NFS, xFS, OceanStore, Google)
- Memory Consistency Models and DSM (Alewife, CRL, Treadmarks)
- Process Migration (Sprite, Transparency, Introspection)
- Security (CRC, MD5, Blowfish, RSA, Kerberos, IPSec)
- Theoretical Issues (deadlock, time management)
Please remember:
- The exam will be from 10:30 to 12:30 on Wednesday, in SH 113
- You will need to supply your own paper
- You will need to start every question on a new sheet of
paper
- You will need to put your SSN, but not your name, on each piece
of paper you turn in.
- The test is open "book" and open notes. However, you may not
use any sort of electronic aids (except language translation
tools if needed).
