The Faculty Senate has adopted a policy which requires me to give students who miss assignments and exams due to University business an opportunity to make up the work. Consequently, I am unable to continue my former policy of allowing all students to simply miss one assignment, and using a different policy for students with University business than for other legitimate excuses would be highly unfair.
Therefore, I will accept late homework or give exams early, or give makeup exams, if unavoidable circumstances prevent you from attending class the day the assignment is due or the exam is given. At my discretion, I may require documentation of the reason you will be unable to attend, such as notification by the university, a doctor's note, etc. If you can reasonably notify me in advance, you must do so (that basically means anything except emergency health problems or car trouble). Simply not getting the assignment done on time will not, repeat not, constitute a reason to turn it in late!
Grades from A to F will be assigned on the basis of your performance on the assignments and tests, in comparison with the rest of the class and my evaluation of the quality of the work done by the class as a whole.
A running average will be maintained showing current class standings.
Each student in this class will be given a copy of
the Rules of Conduct in Computer Science Classes, and the
department's Computer Use Policy. You will be responsible for
being aware of the contents of these documents, as well as in the
Student Code of Conduct, and following the policies in them.
If you have a condition which may affect your ability to exit safely from the premises in an emergency or which may cause an emergency during class, you ae encouraged to discuss this in confidence with the instructor and/or the director of Disabled Student Programs. if you have general questions about the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), call 646-3333.
