CS 474: Process Control

Unix also provides a standard mechanism for manipulating processes. The most important functions in this mechanism are

• fork - create a copy of the current process. Example
• exec family - change a process's program. Example
• wait - wait for a child process to terminate. Two part example: Parent Child
• kill - send a signal to a process Example
• signal - register a signal handler Example
• pause - wait for a signal to arrive Same example as for ``kill''
