Bioinformatics
The Young Women in Computing Summer camp is a four week program. During two of the four weeks our students work closely with two other summer programs that are sponsored by the Computer Science Department at NMSU. At this time, Young Women in Computing, High School Bioinformatics and the Computer Science College Program will combine to generate a research project. Students will work together to learn:

¨ How to conduct research
¨ How to run DNA sequences
¨ How to work with microarrays and run gels
¨ How to work as a team member as you collaborate with other high school and college students on a final presentation project
This portion of the the summer camp is an integral part of the program. Bioinformatics is an exciting field that combines biology and computer science. The result is a more effective strategy and method of conducting research on genetics and disease. This area of computer science is extremely important and has significant social impact. Imagine helping to develop techniques for disease prevention and cure through the use of computer science!
