Graduate Cross-Research Seminar

This main aim is to provide a neutral environment for students doing research that:

  1. helps them to explain what their research is,
  2. find help from various other graduate students for when something in your research seems challenging - no one wants to reinvent the wheel, and
  3. help foster more collaboration between all the research groups.

Scheduled Meets

  • March 2nd

The plan for this meeting is to discuss job/internship options for PhD/Graduate Students. This might also transfer into discussions about post-grad school. Following this, Nando will give a short overview on Constraint Programming and his reseach.

  • Feb. 21st

In this meeting we discussed some of the conferences that students go to in there research areas, also some of the conferences that we read proceedings from as well as what we do at conferences - presentations, posters, networking? In addition, Nahid gave a short overview of some of the research being done with Wireless Sensor Networks in the department.

  • Feb. 14th

In this meeting we discussed issues that some of us have come across when writing for conferences or journals. How much do you put into a draft? How do the reviewers of your submissions react? Afterwards, Ping Hou will give a brief overview of some of the research the Bioinformatics group is currently pursuing including:

    1. **2** computational modeling frameworks for gene regulatory networks**. One is called DSM, and one is called GLN.***
    2. **2 projects for analysis of dynamic system behavior. One for Does response alignment and one for cell cycle.***
    3. **2 projects about the computational roles about spatial information in the biology modeling. One is on the molecule level, and one is on the tissue level.***

  • Feb. 7th

Inaugural Meeting! We discussed some of the goals and ideas to be discussed in this seminar series as well as potential things to improve on in the graduate department in general. Then Ben Wright explained an open issue in his current research with implementing Action Theories.
