Amiya Bhattacharya received his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 1987 from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, India, and his Masters degree in Computer Science in 1991 from the University of California, San Diego. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering in 2002 from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he was a recipient of the Texas Telecommunication Engineering Consortium Fellowship and the 2002 Outstanding Doctoral Research Award. Prior to joining NMSU, he conducted research at Nokia Research Center at Irving and at the Arizona State University.

Amiya's primary research interests are mobile computing and communication systems, wireless networks, internet protocols, performance analysis, modeling and simulation.
