Professor McCoy received his MS in Computer Science from the University of Delaware. Professor McCoy began his career at the Ballistics Research Institute on Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen Maryland. He finished his government career as the Director of Research for the Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

He has over thirty years experience in computing, numerical methods, operations research, war gaming, and systems analysis. He joined the Computer Science Department at NMSU in 1990 as a College Professor.

Since coming to NMSU, he has enjoyed teaching introductory classes, simulation, numerical methods, and 3-D color raster graphics. He has received research grants from Institute for Defense Analyses, Technical Solutions Incorporated, and Sandia Labs.

As a consultant, he supports the DOD through the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in the areas of operational testing and use of graphics for data visualization. His current areas of research interest are Parallel Interactive Simulations, Distributed Interactive Simulations, Real-time Color Graphics, Virtual Reality, Terrain Database Generation, Remote Sensing, and Image Analysis. He has published several papers for the Military OR Analyst's Handbook(MORS), May 1994.
